Nick's first day struggle
Phone buzzes from the alarm. Nick was pulled awake from his deep slumber. The train grazes the track loudly from below the apartment. Nick pulled open his eyelids, as the light slips through his eye crack. The light hit his eyes as hard as it hits Nick's heart, as if Nick was called into his boss's office to tell him about the company's decision to fire him. The back of Nick's mind felt like something recoiled when Nick commanded his brain to get up. It felt like pushing two magnets together the wrong way.
